TotalEnergies EP Uganda and World Vision Uganda Deliver Infrastructure and Capacity Boost to Buliisa Schools

Buliisa, October 21st, 2025 — TotalEnergies EP Uganda, in partnership with World Vision Uganda, has officially handed over newly constructed and rehabilitated classrooms, staff houses and improved latrines, to Kirama and Kisomere Primary Schools in Buliisa District, marking the successful completion of the “Infrastructure Improvement and Institutional Capacity Building Project.” 

This milestone is part of the company’s 2025 project support to the district, aimed at improving learning outcomes and strengthening institutional capacity. As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, the initiative reinforces TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s commitment to advancing youth inclusion and education across the Albertine region.

The project has delivered tangible improvements:

Infrastructure Improvement

• Kisomere Primary School: 11 classrooms rehabilitated, 6 new classrooms constructed, 10 new latrine units built, and an 8-unit staff house.
• Kirama Primary School: 10 classrooms rehabilitated, 10 new latrine units constructed, and an 8-unit staff house.
• Teacher Development: Over 90 teachers across lower Buliisa trained in child protection, reproductive health, and child retention
• Learning Materials: 2,625 textbooks supplied for P.5–P.7 learners.
• Community Engagement: School Management and Parents-Teachers Association Committees trained in educational leadership practices.
• Reintegration Support: Stakeholders at district, subcounty, and school levels trained on reintegrating adolescent dropouts, especially teenage mothers.

Capacity Building
•    Teacher Development: Over 90 teachers across lower Buliisa trained in child protection, reproductive health, and child retention

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Philippe Groueix, the General Manager at TotalEnergies EP Uganda said, “Today, as we hand over this infrastructure, we celebrate a vision in action where strategic partnerships and investment in education lay the foundation for resilient, informed, and empowered communities.” 

“By enhancing learning environments, empowering teachers and school managers, and providing essential resources, we are preparing them to participate in the development of their communities in the future. This initiative reflects our long-term commitment to creating shared value and supporting the holistic development of the Tilenga Project host communities,” he added.

“Teacher effectiveness has improved significantly, supported by both professional development and improved living conditions,” said Jeremiah Nyagah, the National Director World Vision Uganda, “School governance structures have been strengthened, fostering greater community involvement and accountability. Most notably, the reintegration of vulnerable adolescents, especially girls, into formal education is helping to reverse cycles of exclusion and inequality” 

Buliisa District Education Officer, Mr. Kiza Kasangati Taison, commended TotalEnergies EP Uganda and World Vision Uganda for the invaluable support to the two institutions, acknowledging the positive impact it will have. “These facilities will go a long way in creating a more conducive learning environment for our children and easing the burden on teachers,” said Mr. Kasangati.

Tommy Okello, Headteacher Kisomere Primary School, noted that the new classrooms and staff houses would greatly improve the learning environment. “We are deeply grateful for this support,” said Mr. Okello, “For us at Kisomere, this partnership marks a turning point, strengthening our capacity and inspiring both teachers and learners to aim higher.”

This complements other Company CSR interventions in youth inclusion and education in the Albertine that include 377 secondary school scholarships for academically gifted youth to attend some of the best institutions in the country, 100 scholarships for nursing and midwifery and skilling of hundreds of young people from local communities. Additionally, over 7,000 solar lamps have been distributed to households and local institutions, local health facilities have received targeted support, and more than 10,000 households have benefited from agricultural development programs.
