TOTALENERGIES EP UGANDA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS: SUPPORTING THE IDENTIFICATION AND TRAINING OF TALENTED YOUTH IN UGANDA

Since the start of its activities in Uganda in 2012, TotalEnergies EP Uganda has offered local and international scholarships aimed at empowering talented Ugandan youth with skills required in the oil and gas industry.

A’Level sponsored students excel in 2020 UACE exam

TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s A’Level sponsored students have excelled in the 2020 UACE exams whose results were announced on 20th August 2021 by the Minister of Education and sports, Hon Janet Museveni. The students who were sponsored as part of the Company’s education program targeting brilliant scholars from the districts within the Tilenga project attained excellent grades that will enable them to pursue further studies in higher institutions of learning.

Topping the list of performers were Otimgiu Cosmas (PEM/SC) from Namilyango College with 20 points, Ansinguzi Garton (PCM) from Seeta High School Mukono with 20 points, Avaga Dickens (BCM/CS) from St. Mary’s College Kisubi with 18 points, Adomati Aggrey (BCM/CS) also from St. Mary’s College Kisubi with 18 points.

Since inception in 2013 TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s education program has provided scholarships to over 200 scholars (50 O’Level beneficiaries; 140 A ‘Level beneficiaries and 26 Vocational Training beneficiaries) from Nwoya, Buliisa, Nebbi, Pakwach and Masindi. In 2019, 20 students were enrolled in Kings College Buddo, Namilyango College, Trinity College Nabingo, Seeta High School and St Mary's College Kisubi and finished their studies in April 2021.

Under the A’Level education programme, 6 groups of students have so far sat for their final UACE exams and have attained government sponsorships at Makerere, Gulu, Kyambogo and Busitema universities.

The pioneer A ‘level scholars recruited in 2013 finished their university education in 2019, and pioneer vocational scholars recruited in 2015 also graduated in 2019 with a National Certificate in various trades.

Enrolled Masters’ Program students embark on a new journey

TotalEnergies EP Uganda has flagged off 3 scholars who were identified and selected to pursue Masters’ programs in Geoscience disciplines at the renowned French Petroleum Institute (IFP) school in Paris, France. The successful candidates who underwent a thorough identification and recruitment exercise are Deogratius Lingo, Victoria Arena Nalwoga and Gideon Kibirige.

The scholars’ recruitment process included technical and panel interviews with TotalEnergies and assessments by the IFP School board to finally be selected.

The students were flagged off by outgoing TotalEnergies Uganda Country chair and GM, Pierre Jessua at a function held   on 27th July 2021 at TotalEnergies EP Uganda, Kampala office.

Speaking at the function, Mr Jessua congratulated the students on their achievement and offered words of encouragement. He also reminded them to openly communicate with the designated contact persons especially in case they face any challenges.

The students travelled to IFP School on 28th August 2021 and are set to start their academic year on 1st September 2021.

Launched in 2012, TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Masters’ Scholarship Program targets brilliant scholars interested in pursuing science and technical disciplines. To date, 13 scholars have successfully graduated from the program with 9 retained by the Company. Through the program, graduate scholars are equipped with the right knowledge and skills to participate in the development of Uganda’s oil and gas industry as well as other sectors.

By partnering with some of the best institutions in the country to offer scholars with top notch education and scholarship opportunities, the Company aims to contribute to a pool of trained human resources in Uganda. These highly trained individuals will have the capacity to participate in the overall development of the country through their various chosen fields of study.
