GIDEON KIBIRIGE
In 2021, Gideon Kibirige received TotalEnergies EP Uganda's Postgraduate scholarship, which enabled him to pursue a Master of Science in Reservoir Engineering at IFP School in France. He is now positively impacting Uganda's oil and gas sector as a Reservoir Engineer.
JACKLINE KUNIHIRA
Meet Jackline Kunihira, a beneficiary of TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Graduate Trainee program. She has played a pivotal role in the installation of a passive seismic network for the Tilenga Project. For Jackline, contributing to Uganda’s first oil extraction is both a joy and a privilege.
GRACE MUKASA MUKIIBI
Grace Mukasa Mukiibi, is a Certified Welder and Entrepreneur. After completing his Diploma in Petroleum Engineering, Mukiibi recognized the importance of hands-on training and experience to thrive in the competitive job market. He underwent specialized training as part of TotalEnergies EP Uganda's Welders Training Programme. Upon completing his training and certification, Mukasa and a group of beneficiaries of the Welders Training Programme established a company called Coded Welders & Contractors (U) LTD. In 2013, http://cwc.co.ug benefited from HSE management systems training and achieved ISO 45001 certification. Today, the company is 1 of the vital companies supplying beds to #TilengaProject's 4,000-man camp.
BRENDA AMANYA
Brendah Amanya joined TotalEnergies EP Uganda as a Graduate Trainee, an opportunity that laid a strong foundation for her career in the oil and gas sector. Today, she is working as a Methods Officer.
DAVID KASAMBA
In 2015, David Kasamba excelled in his Uganda Certificate of Examinations (UCE). However, he faced financial constraints that threatened his hopes for further education. However, he applied for the TotalEnergies EP Uganda's Advanced Secondary Education scholarship, which became a turning point in his life. Today, Kasamba is a Telecom Engineer playing a crucial role in facilitating telecommunication and cybersecurity in Uganda.
SHEILA KEMIGISA
Despite excelling in her Uganda Certificate of Examinations (UCE), Sheila Kemigisa's aspirations for higher education were in jeopardy. However, she received TotalEnergies EP Uganda's Advanced Secondary Education scholarship, which allowed her to pursue her studies without the burden of tuition fees. Today, Sheila serves as a Mining Engineer at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
Tilenga Academy Program
The Tilenga Academy training program aims to empower youth with skills and international certifications to work on the Tilenga project during its production phase. Selected candidates undergo 2.5 years of training at various locations, starting at the Uganda Petroleum Institute in Kigumba (UPIK), followed by international Oil and Gas training centers, and hands-on experience during the Tilenga project installation and commissioning.
The courses include theoretical training in Oil and Gas, Production, Maintenance, and Health, Safety, and Environment. Among the trainees, 31% will specialize in Production, 27% in Mechanical Maintenance, 26% in Instrumentation Maintenance, and 16% in Electrical Maintenance.
Key Milestones – Tilenga Academy
- January 10th, 2022: TotalEnergies EP Uganda launched a free online program called the Tilenga MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) to identify 120-150 young Ugandans for training in oil & gas operations and maintenance for the Tilenga project. Over 13,000 young Ugandans participated in the online course.
- April - June 2022: Written and in-person assessments were conducted.
- March 15th, 2023: 200 Ugandan youth selected from the Tilenga MOOC to join the Tilenga Academy training program were unveiled.
- April 16th, 2024: The first cohort of 100 trainees commenced training at the Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK).
- October 2024: The second cohort of 100 trainees began training at UPIK.
- April 3rd, 2025: The first cohort of 100 trainees embarked on advanced studies in Oil & Gas operations and maintenance in France, Malaysia, and Oman.
