Total E&P Uganda supports recovery efforts in Buliisa District

Total E&P Uganda has come to the aid of Buliisa District following a series of storms that occurred in March 2016. The company is to rehabilitate three primary schools – Kirama, Ndandamire and Kisansya – whose structures were destroyed by the storm. This intervention will benefit an estimated 300 pupils and teachers.

The donation, which includes assorted building materials such as iron sheets, nails and timber, will go towards rehabilitating two classroom blocks, two toilet blocks and one staff quarters at Kirama primary school, one classroom block at Ndandamire primary school and one classroom block at Kisansya primary school, all in Kigwera sub-county, Buliisa district.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the items to the Buliisa District Chief Administrative Officer, the General Manager of Total E&P Uganda, Adewale Fayemi, expressed the company’s deepest condolences for the lives lost during the storm and also expressed sympathies to the families of the deceased and the injured. He also reiterated the company’s commitment to participating in initiatives geared towards the support and development of the Buliisa community.

“Education is priority to Total E&P Uganda and therefore the destruction of part of these schools by the storm is a key concern for us. As a responsible development partner of Buliisa District, we would like to lend a hand towards the rehabilitation of these schools to be able to minimise the interruptions caused”, said Fayemi.

The building materials needed for the renovation project were procured from the Buliisa area. “Total E&P Uganda is pleased to see that local contractors and carpenters have been identified by the District to execute the renovations. These contractors will work together with the company’s civil engineer who will oversee the progress of the repairs”, Fayemi added.

Total E&P Uganda is an ardent investor in education projects in its areas of operation. The company runs three education programmes targeting students from the area who wish to pursue further education. The programmes include local, vocational and girl’s scholarships.
